Shihan Sensei Justin Doherty

Sensei Justin began his karate journey at Liberty's Karate and took over the school when Sensei John retired. Justin's cross trained in BJJ at Pura under Professor P.J. O'Sullivan and began to teach Black Belt classes in karate at GMA in 2017. He is the Head Instructor for the WadoCombat Karate program for adults. Justin's invested hours in analyzing and teaching the movements in our katas. His interest has led to a much better understanding of the "bunkai" in the katas and helped the students understand the movement and application of the movements. His research includes attending the seminars hosted by Sensei Abernathy of Great Britain, where the theory has been changed from the idea of fighting multiple attackers to a continuous and fluid battle against only one opponent.
Sensei Justin was presented with his 6th Degree certificate by Sensei Ron on May 30th, 2023. It was witnessed by his black belts, his other students and his family. The presentation was long overdue.
